Skiing Day Trips

Les Carroz’s central location makes it the perfect base for day trips to a choice of highly regarded resorts in the region;

Les Gets (35 minutes)

Les Gets has become an integral part of the impressive Portes du Soleil circuit with over 650km of varied piste spanning resorts in France and Switzerland. Although not considered the ideal base for exploring the whole area, Les Gets' own slopes are extensive, mainly suitable for beginner and intermediate skiers.

Directions: Leave Les Carroz and drive down the mountain for 2 km until you reach the village of Arraches. Turn right, following the directions to Taninges. After approximately 5 km, the road bends very sharply to the left – at this bend turn right and continue to follow the directions to Taninges. At Taninges, follow the signs to Les Gets-Morzine.

Morzine (40 minutes)

Morzine is a long established, traditional French resort, central to the 650km of slopes of the Portes du Soleil. It is ideal for those skiers in search of extensive motorway or tree lined piste.

Directions: Follow the above directions to Les Gets – Morzine is 5km further along the valley.

Chamonix (40 minutes)

Chamonix is a mecca for experts, with huge off-piste potential on offer. World renowned challenges include the spectacular Vallee Blanche off-piste route from the Aiguille du Midi back to Chamonix town. As much of the terrain is based on the Mont Blanc glacier, the danger of crevices means that using an experienced local guide is strongly recommended. Although there are sufficient slopes to entertain intermediate and beginner skiers, the resort would only normally be recommended to such skiers if snow conditions elsewhere are poor.

Directions: Leave Les Carroz and drive down the mountain to the valley. Turn left towards Sallanches. After  7km, join the A40 Autoroute eastbound, following the directions to Chamonix

Megeve (40 minutes)

Megeve is considered the French equivalent of Switzerland’s St Moritz, being the most chic and fashionable resort in France, with numerous elegant bars and restaurants lining the pedestrianised cobbled centre. The grass based slopes are skiable with only centimetres of snow, making Megeve a potential option when the regional snow cover is low. The area itself is relatively large and generally uncrowded. Experts are attracted by the off piste potential with first tracks often available days after snow falls. Intermediate skiers will enjoy the vast choice of blue and red runs whilst beginners have a good selection of nursery slopes at altitude and in the valley.

Directions: Leave Les Carroz and drive down the mountain to the valley. Do not turn right into Cluses but instead follow signs left towards Sallanches. Pass thhrough Sallanches town centre and follow the signs to Megeve.

La Clusaz/Le Grand Bornand (45 minutes)

Beautiful resorts in the Aravis range, recommended for intermediate and beginner skiers eager to cruise on the numerous red, blue and green runs on offer..

Directions: Leave Les Carroz and drive down the mountain to the valley and take the A40 Autoroute westbound, following the directions to Geneva-Annecy. Exit at Sortie 16, and follow the signs to La Clusaz-Le Grand Bornand along the spectacular pass through the mountains. A more direct route through the Col de la Colombiere via Sortie 18 is more direct but can be subject to closure during the winter.

Driving times are approximate and based on good driving conditions. Remember cash for the tolls on the A40 Autoroute, and passports if using the Mont-Blanc tunnel to access the Italian resort of Cormayeur.
